Miscellaneous Usage Errors - Exercise 2

Directions: Rewrite the following sentences to repair any of the following errors: fragments, comma splices, subject-verb agreement, pronoun-antecedent agreement, pronoun case, faulty pronoun reference, apostrophe misuse, comma misuse, dangling modifiers, misplaced modifiers, or non-parallel structure.

1.  My mother who is from Chicago speaks very clearly.



2.  Ruling is easy; to govern is difficult.



3.  She took a cab to the airport. Realizing that it was late.



4.  When only four years old, my grandfather taught me to swim.



5.  No one in the country is faster on the track than him.



6.  A friend gave me a ride to the mall, otherwise, I wouldn't have gone.



7.  You should follow all the directions on the sheets, even if you do not always agree with them.



8.  The action of the coaches look suspicious.



9.  As the dog ran around in circles, it wrapped it's leash around the tree.
